Heavy Rainfall Expected

The weather has been rather quiet over the past several days across Georgia, but we are expecting a period of heavy rain today through Monday across the state. Below is a setup outlook explaining why.

First, we will have a system that will cross the region today bringing the first round of showers and storms. Then, during the weekend, Invest 92-L, which will probably be a tropical storm by that time, will head into the Gulf Coast States and bring us more rain Saturday and Sunday. Also, a jest stream dip with cooler air to our west may result in some severe weather across Alabama and possibly the northwest sections of Georgia. In addition, the eastern side of the tropical system might bring a few isolated tornadoes across South and east Georgia. In short, expect a very wet weekend, and be prepared to postpone and/or cancel all outdoor activities.

Here is my rainfall forecast for today through Monday.

Expect 1 inch of rain as the least across Northwest Georgia, to as much as locally above 6 inches across Southern Georgia.

*Today will likely be a Flash/River Flooding Awareness Day. A notice will be posted with the final decision around 4 or 5 PM.*
